What we’re reading

  • This interview with the General Counsel of Kickstarter, and former GC of littleBits and Tumblr, Chris Mitchell where he describes his non-legal responsibilities and how he stays on top of cybersecurity developments
  • The Supreme Court has added a 44th case to their 2018-19 term: Manhattan Community Access Corp. v. Halleck. The case goes to the heart of an area of First Amendment law that could have significant implications for media companies — from Twitter to National Public Radio — that curate content on their platforms. The ruling, expected in June 2019, could help clarify whether companies like Facebook and Twitter qualify as “state actors”
  • With the U.S. midterm elections dominating the news this week, Crunchbase profiled a number of startups that aim to tackle elections and voting
  • Lucy Bassli, Chief Legal Strategist at LawGeex and former Assistant General Counsel of Microsoft, on the hottest tech trends of 2018. Lucy will be a panelist at an event we are co-hosting with LawGeex in December. RSVP here!
  • A new online game lets players train AI to spot legal issues
  • We’re excited to report that both Part 1 and Part 2 of our interview with esteemed author and thinker Richard Susskind have been published on Above The Law
